Custom G36 sniper rifle

Today I saw custom G36 sniper rifle in one of local airsoft retailers. Long silencer, RISes everywhere, bipod, short lowcap, tuning to 470 fps.

I'd like my mG36 to be something between original MG36 (bipod, drum magazine) and this kind of sniper rifle, i.e. I'll attach my long silencer and try to purchase the upper RIS rail.

mG36 - one step back

I wrote couple of days ago (in post MG36 phase III upgrade, day one) that the barrel I could not be properly attached to the rest od the replica. What I wanted to express is that there's one part of hopup chamber that holds the barrel to the chamber which doesn't fit because the barrel has notch in different place that the original one.

I removed that barrel on saturday and installed the original one, that's why I titled this post "one step back". :)

Yesterday I had my first chance to test the replica during airsoft game. We played it inside one of abandoned tractor factory buildings. What I noticed yesterday:
- the replica is now better balanced since the heavy battery is now installed inside the stock,
- the stock cannot be folded because of the battery iside (that's why the 3300 mAh battery for this stock has different cell setup).

Here's a photo of my replica at it's current state of upgrade.

By the way -- I just noticed why the stock had different connector on the cable, that's because the battery had the same T-type plug. I wonder why they couldn't use the standard small or large plug?

Yesterday I also got a chance to attach the C-magazine to my replica. See below...

One of the guys had the G36 with STAR grenade launcher and that magazine. The grenade launcher looked nice but the effect of launching all the BBs inside was...poor (in my humble opinion).

Legal issues in airsoft in Poland

Wikipedia says about legal issues in polish airsoft:

Airsoft guns fall into the same category as paintball guns and smoothbore air-powered weapons up to 17 Joules and are available to people over 18 years of age, registration of any sort is not required. This, however, is not strictly enforced and many cheap spring replicas may be found in toy shops (due to common practice of labelling them as "toys"). Generally, the police considers airsoft replicas toys rather than "non-lethal weapons". The Polish airsoft community has formulated "Airsoft Rules", an unofficial set of rules regarding airsoft as a whole. While they are not enforced in any specific way, abiding "Airsoft Rules" is a sign of "playing fair" and belonging to the community. Excerpts from "Airsoft Rules":

  • Eye protection must be worn at all times during the game.
  • Brandishing replicas in public places is not allowed. Doing so may lead to ejection from the community.
  • Local law enforcement (police, Forest Guard etc.) must be informed earlier about every airsoft game taking place in the area.
  • Players between 16 and 18 years of age are able to participate in airsoft games only with written permission from their parents.
I might add that it is highly recommended to be fair i.e. to say when you're being hit, rather than cheating. Cheaters are not welcome and are being called Terminators or Rambos in reference to those characters who received many hits and still were alive. ;)

It is also advised to carry a red piece of cloth to put it on your head or wave with it after being shot. This allows other players to know if the person is dead or alive.

This post is released under GNU FDL license.

Why is airsoft better than paintball?

I believe that airsoft is better war simulation than paintball, though I never had a chance to play paintball. Airsoft is cheaper (BBs are 10 times cheaper) and the replicas look like real steel guns and rifles. Paintball replicas look like something between electric drill and vacuum cleaner.

mG36 phase 2.66

Phase 2 2/3 done. I attached the battery stock today. My father borrowed for me the proper hex key, 1.5 mm wide. On the following photo you can see the stock in it's fully-retracted position.

Here you can see the hex key, the hex screw and the pin with the notch that didn't allow me to remove it without unscrewing the screw.

I also put the wires inside the replica's body, above the gearbox. It was not easy since there's no much free space. Two photos below show the wires under the magazine socket and as seen near the hinge between body and stock.

mG36 phase 2.33 test 1

Today I tested my mG36 phase 2 1/3. I wanted to do it yesterday but it was dark and I couldn't see how the replica works.

The first test was unsuccesful, because the replica didn't fire. As I saw, the BBs weren't pushed to the hopup. I removed the magazine seat and found out that one of the gearbox wires was in the way of BBs. I moved it a little and the replica started working fine.

I noticed a small increase of the BB's speed. That satisfies me.

I forgot to mention yesterday
that the inner barrel is too long so I can't attach the flame hider.

MP5K tuning to 350 fps?

Today I saw in one of the local ASG shops the replica of MP5K PDW tuned to 350 fps. It has installed: 170% CA equivalence (I say equivalence not equivalent spring, because I heard that this shop instead of installing the stronger power spring just adds muff to compress the original spring), metal bushings, metal gears and metal spring guide. I am surprised that this shop doesn't replace the piston and cylinder heads with stronger ones... They give 12 month warranty so this meand they expect the original heads to be strong enough. That's good news for any replica tuner.

I'll try to upgrade my MP5K PDW with the parts I got from CA's AUG - stock power spring (130%?), metal gears and ball bearings I bought for AUG but didn't install because they didn't fit the replica. For sure this will not give me 350 fps but but I hope for something near 310-320 fps.

mG36 phase III upgrade - day one

Today I decided that I'll install the parts I receieved yesterday, ordered earlier this week (stock, barrel), the sealed nozzle I bought few months ago and a 170% Classic Army spring I got with my replica.

I decided that the first thing to replace will be the stock because that was my main purchase. I tried to remove the original stock in order to attach my new purchase. I didn't have the proper hex key to remove the hinge. So the stock will have to wait for it's turn.

This was not a good day for the G36 tuning. First of all I didn't have all the tools required for such a work and I ordered parts that didn't fit my replica well. ;)

Since I removed the gearbox and magazine socket to see how to attach the stock wiring to the gearbox (I still have no f--king idea!) I had an opportunity to remove the inner barrel and install the precise one. So I removed the outer and inner barrel and the entire metal part that holds the hopup together. I dismantled that part and the hopup itself. When I got my hands on the barrel and compared it to the one I bought (designed for M14, not G36!) I saw that it has the vertical incision (that holds the barrel in place and doesn't allow any motion in axial direction) was in different place. This means that the barrel is not properly connected to the rest of the replica.

Without having the stock installed I didn't want to replace the inner parts of the gearbox - i.e. nozzle and power spring. This is because I wanted to have first the 9.6V battery installed which I can't install without the stock.

Parts to mG36 phase III arrived

Yesterday I got the parts I ordered -- precise barrel and battery stock. Too bad I don't know how to connect the wiring to the stock.
